Update!!

Well summer has come and gone, and now its November!! I have been very busy! Moving, searching for a new job, planning stuff... still do not have a sewing room set up yet, but i have a space, so all i need is all my stuff to get to my new living area.  But I have been sewing a lot with my new job - as a seamstress at It's A Stitch! An alteration and design shop... specializing in dance and skate wear, current project of producing costumes for the ballet Figaro which comes out March 2012.

As for personal projects, they are mostly on hold for the moment, until set up is complete.  But i did get a Halloween costume made - Lolita inspired nurse...
The blouse I had made for my graduating line (see: April 2011), so i made a circle skirt with red ribbon trim, and an apron with a pocket, and red lace trim.  And my friend played the part of my crazy patient.

So, finally almost settled in a new house, scored the most fantastic job ever, and hopefully the last stage of moving this weekend, then i will get back to focusing on a new line for the Fredericton fashion show in April of 2012.

Stuff Added to Etsy

So I have a few things that I have added to my Etsy shop recently, my beaded crown necklaces being my featured items right now. As seen worn by a couple of my models in the fashion show. I am making many more colors, to match all Lolita outfit colors!

I am selling some beads from my personal collection. They are all in fantastic condition, and never been used; I see great things in their futures, some of these beads are quite unique.

I will be adding the Coffin Purse to the shop later today. It will be a custom order item, available in black outer, but you choose your lining print.

I will be starting to make some earrings - I am just waiting on supplies! I am quite excited for this project.

Lastly, I will soon be listing some of the items worn in the April 16th, Omnific Fashion Show! And I have some ideas for some puffy Lolita style skirts in really cute prints, that I will soon get on the way!

This is going to be one exciting summer!! So stayed tuned for lots new stuff from Asylum Couture!

Fashion Show Success!!

I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who turned out to the fashion show Saturday night!! It really was an amazing experience, and it was great to see my hard work finally pay off. All of my models were absolutely fantastic!! And totally rocked their outfits!! I couldn't have asked for anything more from my very first fashion show experience :)

This is a great shot of some of my models during their second walk out.

Layered Tule Skirt

This is a cute skirt I made summer 2010. It contains black eyelet with a layer of black tule, layered over orange sateen with a layer of orange tule. The double fullness is gathered onto an elastic so it fits medium/large size.

I also made a longer version with no tule, but the eyelet has a lacy border, and the orange is trimmed with black ribbon.

Wonder Legs

I made these leggings June 2010, after being inspired by the fabric, and thinking about a dark Alice in Wonderland. This pair was bought by a local Fredericton fashion blogger, and were worn to New York Fashion Week Fall 2010, and were 'a big hit'!! I do have enough fabric to make one or two more custom made pairs.

Beginning a Corset

This is a corset I have started for an outfit in my fashion show line-up. Eventually it will be a steel boned 2 layer corset. It will be a rich purple and silver Chinese brocade fabric, and lined with twill. This picture is of the pattern - drafted from a basic bodice. The fabric is the mock-up, made in drill which is a very durable fabric, great to make corsets that will be used for tight lacing. This corset will have lacing up the center back. It is part of the 8th outfit in my line-up.

Cape

This is a cape I made for a masquerade ball back in February. White satin exterior with a black lining and black ribbon ties. 100% polyester.

Painted T-Shirt

This is my first painted t-shirt, based off a clay tile I was given to complete a student exchange project, for my 3-D design class. I enlarged the 3x3 squid tile from a pottery student, and used my screen printing medium to create this wonderful permanent squid t-shirt, complete with a glow-in-the-dark eye!!

Trace, Cut, Sew, Repeat

So I have been working on sewing for the upcoming fashion show. One outfit is almost done, and a couple other pieces are finished. Still a ways to go though, but I am really excited for the finished line. I have jewelery and accessories that I have been working on as well - necklaces and purses. The annual fashion show is taking place at the Delta Fredericton, April 16, doors open at 6!!

Coffin Purse

I made my own pattern for this adorable little Coffin Purse (Fall 2010). Stands 9" tall by 5" wide. Industrial hinge and handle. Fully lined interior with mirror.

Planning on making 2 more for the fashion show, more also available by custom order.

Pixie Leggings

These are one of a few variations on my Pixie Leggings designs (Designed June 2010). Consisting of a pair of leggings of a bright or earthy floral pattern, with matching colored ribbons in various placements along the inseam. The ribbons then get laced around the leg, and then the knots or bows are left to hang down the outer edge of the leg.

PS - This pair has sold, so sorry for the bad picture, more are available made to order.

Teal and Black Ruffle Skirt

I just wanted to document this skirt I made over my Xmas holiday (Designed January 2011). I used part of a pattern I made in first year fashion - the waistband/interfacing and half of the yoke (it was an asymmetrical pattern, now it is symmetrical) then I measured (twice and cut once) the bottom layers, so that I would get double fullness, but keeping the angle right on to match the yoke. It also has a side zip and a hidden catch, decorative Key is a found item. Fabrics used: light weight plaid suiting, 2 layers of black poplin, and interfacing in waistband.

This one is a keeper, but I will be making more
skirts and different sizes, once the fashion show is all wrapped up at the end of April. Sizes will be limited to the amount of fabric in this color, but I will take orders. Other colors may be available.
